Thorntons quickly makes it clear that users are in the right place through the use of colour. The banners and labels are in the purple that the brand is known for, giving a feeling of being home. Even the script used for the titles feels like the brand.
When it comes to the homepage, it’s not just a place for selling products. The company includes the About Us section, helping to instil a sense of confidence in the chocolates available. The About Us section also includes links for people to quickly visit the most popular types of chocolates on the site.
Using the menu is very simple. The company clearly knows its customers, offering a gifts section, as well as focusing separately on chocolates and flowers. If someone knows exactly what they would like, they can use the prominent search bar at the top. The downsides are the lack of contacting on the site. The only pop-up displayed is to join the email list, and it’s not entirely clear what people are joining for. Instead, the contacting section is right at the bottom, surrounded by other links. Unfortunately, a chocolate recipe section is right at the bottom. This could be displayed more clearly at the top to encourage people visiting to buy their products from some deliciously suggested recipes.
